The RIM I/O Module with RS232/RS422 Interface has a maximum cable length of 30 meters (100 feet) for RS-232 and 1200 meters (4000 feet) for RS-422. For communication, it uses RS-232, RS-422, or an external modem. The protocol used is developed by Bently Nevada, and it supports a maximum baud rate of 38.4 kbaud.
The module is designed to support current Bently Nevada Communications Processors, namely the Transient Data Interface External (TDIX) and Dynamic Data Interface External (DD IX). While the RIM provides certain functions common to the entire rack, it is not part of the critical monitoring path. Therefore, its operation or non-operation has no effect on the proper, normal operation of the overall monitoring system.
