The MTL838B-MBF is an analogue receiver designed for use in hazardous areas, providing RS485 and/or RS422 outputs for Modbus communication. This device is part of the MTL830 range of multiplexers, which are known for their ability to reduce the cost of installed wiring by up to 50% by communicating the status of multiple hazardous-area sensors over dual-redundant data highways. The MTL838B-MBF translates data received from the MTL831B analogue transmitter in the hazardous area and makes it available as twin RS485 Modbus serial data outputs. MTL838B.

Communication Parameters: Supports baud rates from 300 to 19200, stop bits of 1 or 2, data bits of 7 or 8, and parity bits of odd, even, or none.
Multi-Receptor Facility: Up to 31 MTL838B-MBF units can be connected to communicate with one Modbus master controller, facilitating multi-dropping of Modbus receivers on a single RS485 link.
Power Requirement: Requires 500mA at 20–35V DC.
Temperature Limits: Operates between –20 to +50°C and can be stored between –40 to +80°C.
Supported Thermocouple Types: Types E, J, K, N, R, and T according to IEC 584, with other options available upon request.
The MTL838B-MBF is configured using the PCS83 PC software configuration package, which allows for setting operational parameters such as thermocouple and RTD types, safety drive settings, high and low alarms, and linearization settings. These configurations are retained using battery-backed RAM, ensuring that the device maintains its settings even after power interruptions.
